Vertaal have made one of the best new London Jazz albums of the year so far in Paradigm Shifting, the coloured vinyl issue sold out very fast and now we have another very limited (300) Black vinyl edition , don't sleep on this if you missed it before. There are some good smooth Jazz albums in this week from Jeff Lorber Fusion and Brian Simpson. Southern Energy Ensemble superb Jazz and Funky Jazz album from 1977 was only ever issued in 1993 on DC label Black Fire and is now remastered and sounds fantastic. Hiatus Kaiyote return with their first new album in six years with 'Mood Valiant' available on CD,LP and ink spot vinyl. Hodges James and Smith recorded many albums in the 70's but now we have a CD album of early and unreleased material from 1971-73 including Carolyn Crawford. Another album of unreleased material from Bill Evans Trio is unearthed 'On a Friday Evening' from 1975 issued on Craft recordings on CD and LP,. this is likely to sell out fast on vinyl. Classic Brit Funk band Beggar & Co have revisited some of their best loved tracks and remixed and remastered them to great effect. Jeb Loy Nichols has been bubbling along underground for a few years with some nice albums, but teaming up with Cold Diamond and Mink may well bring him to a lot more people's attention. Dunn Debrett Quintet have made a really nice deep Jazz album during lockdown featuring many great UK Players and including Nathan Haines on flute, available in limited quantities. We have something of a rarity these days, a new Soul CD this week from Raheem DeVaughn with Apollo Brown 'Lovesick'. The Mighty Mocambo's 2066 gets a limited Gold vinyl issue and our old friend Jasper The Vinyl Junkie presents a CD/3LP+7" compilation of Vinyl Junkie Thangs ! There are the latest two in the Blue note Tone Poet album series from Art Blakey and Curtis Amy, both great albums.
