Feature Group: Top Releases of the Week

Record Store Day Soul and Funk titles for the June 12th drop are finally here. Titles are all limited and available in-store only from 0800 AM - 1800 PM, after which the remaining titles will become available online.

Joao Donato is the latest artist to feature in the excellent Jazz Is Dead series from Adrian Younge and Ali Shaeed Muhammad. Rebecca Vasmant is another new British Jazz artist with love from Glasgow, and Peckham's finest Ruby Rushton release a 4 track 12" EP Gideon's Way. Gilles Peterson showcase MV4 gets  welcome repress on White Vinyl, and Soul Jazz have a great compilation of Cuban music. There are loads of great releases this week , something for everybody.  Logan Richardson has made a really nice Jazz/|Soul album 'Afrofuturism, Gizelle Smith returns with another raw funky soul album and there are new albums from Immanuel Wilkins, Mark Letteri,Gianni Brezzo and finally availablev on vinyl Aaron Frazer. Great reissues from Curtis Mayfield (ltd blue vinyl), rare funk/soul from Carl Smith, three great titles on Black Jazz from Doug Carn ft Jean Carn and Gene Russell, rare Jazz/Soul from Greenflow and classic vocal jazz from Abbey Lincoln amongst others. Get on board the Soul Train is the first volume of the limited edition 50th Anniversary box sets from the Philadelphia International label featuring eight early albums from the label on remastered Cds plus a bonus 12" single and book about the label. Adrian Younge 'American Negro' album is now out on double vinyl and new London Jazz is represented by Kiwi drummer Myele Manzana ft Ashley Henry, Mark Declive Lowe and more. New Releases | Friday, 30th April 2021 Sons of Kemet return with 'Black to the Future' their take on new London Jazz, on the Impulse label which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. As part of the celebrations Impulse have a 2cd and 4lp box set compilation , plus two of their classic 1961 albums from Gil Evans and Ray Charles released on the Acoustic Sounds 180gm Analogue label. Legendary Afro-beat Drummer Tony Allen has a posthumous album, 'There Is No End' available on CD, LP and very limited edition alternative collectors art sleeve LP. Go Go Penquin have a remix album on limited Coloured vinyl. The latest two Blue Note Tone Poet albums are here from Dexter Gordon and Andrew Hill 'Passing Ships'.  We also have back in stock three classic Blue Note albums from their 180gm Analogue series. Chester Thompson is the latest Black Jazz label reissue and there are good reissues from Manu Dibango, rare Soul/Funk from Syndicate and The Cult, an unissued live Gary Bartz...

There are a lot of releases this week, a real mixed bag.  Dego returns with a full album of broken beat on 2000 Black, Marcus Joseph is the latest UK Jazz artist on Jazz:refreshed, and Snarky Puppy guitarist Mark Letteri has a new album. Bobby Womack's classic Poet albums have welcome remastered issues. Nathan Bartell independent Soul records are compiled by Atrhens of the North and there are reissues of rare Jazz albums from Kohsuke Mine, Ian Carr, Placebo, Francisco Mora-Catlett on Far-Out, plus we are back in stock of Hugo Heredia Jazz dance classic and Billy Cobham's all time...

There are only a few new albums and singles this week, but there is some real quality in and among them. Alfa Mist returns with his raw, urban style of UK Jazz, combining Soul and Hip Hop influences to create 'Bring Backs', available on CD, LP and a limited Purple LP.  Amanda Whiting blends Jazz, Folk and Soul for a very late night sound 'After Dark'. New Releases | Friday 16th April 2021 There are few new releases this week, but there are some good quality titles. First up we have what has become something of a rarity these days: a new Soul album, from our own Soulful Emma Louise (S.E.L.) , a nice mixture of Up and mid tempo Soul cuts and Soulful House. New Releases | Friday 9th April 2021 We are delighted to present the latest title in our Classic album series : Kamal and the Brothers 'Dance' a superb Jazz and Spiritual Jazz album from 1983 ft Idris Muhammad and many other great musicians.  It includes the jazz dance classic 'Brotherhood'  and is available on CD from today.
