Recommended new Albums – 26th July 2013

The UK's own Don-E makes what is probably his best album to date with Little Star. There are also strong reissues from Logg, Aurra and T-Connection and Peter King and good reissues from Pleasure, Darrell Banks, Staples Singers David Porter and Bettye Crutcher due tomorrow. Recommended albums and 45s of the week – July 19th

Robin McKelle has made a really nice album fusing soul and jazz elements and features Gregory Porter, which is on of the highlights this week., that you won't want to miss. Kon (of Kon and Amir fame) has a nu-disco/boogie album that should keep your feet moving, available on CD and limited Coloured Double Vinyl, plus UK artist Da Paul has made an interesting soul/jazz album. X factor finalist and shop regular Jahmene Douglas releases his debut album which has Soul and Gospel influences and there are three more albums from the Italian/Japanese jazz label Albore. Albums and 45s of the week – 12th July 2013

George Duke returns with his best album in a decade or more with 'Dreamweaver' which includes one of the last tracks that Teena Marie recorded. Its a good week for smooth jazz with albums from Andrew Neu amongst others, and left field soul with Deborah Bond backing singer Kenny Wesley and Mayer Hawthorne. There are good re-issues from Bar-Kays, Chi-lites, Phyllis Hyman and other ladies, along with Nicola Conte's latest installment of his excellent Viagem series. Its another great week for quality releases and reissues. Booker T has made an excellent contemporary soul album ft Anthony Hamilton and other guests. Howard Johnson returns with a really strong album prod by Leon Sylvers, UK band Personal Life have an early 80's sounding soul/jazz funk album and there are other good Soul/R&B albums from Joe, Donell Jones and Ronald Isley.
