It is an incredible week for releases with many killer new albums and some great reissues on vinyl and CD for Soul. Jazz, Funk and Blues.

On the new Soul side Zo brings us another really strong set ‘Skybreak’, Martha High a superb slice of contemporary retro soul , Rasheed Ali continues his 1968 trilogy with 1968:Black Power, Eric Roberson collaborator D’Maurice has a nice album and Angelo Moore an interesting set on Ropeadope.

The Jazz is taking over!

2016 is turning out to be another Vintage year for Jazz, this week we have Robert Glasper and Miles Davis ‘Everythings Beautiful’ an amazing tribute to the great man ft Erykah Badu, Bilal, Ledisi, Stevie Wonder , Haitus Kaiyote and many others. Jackie Gage is a new name to us and her debut Siren Songs is a beautiful Vocal jazz album. Manchester group Mammal Hands team up with the Gondwana Orchestra for another great set. Sultans Swing is really good contemporary Jazz fusion album (on vinyl only) featuring multi instrumentalist Tom Funk who visited Soul Brother earlier in the week, see the pictures here. Frank Catalano teams up with Jimmy Chamberlin and David Sanborn for a good Organ jazz album. The Jazz Invaders return with their most accessible album to date which has a 70’s jazz funk feel. Cuban keyboardist Axel Tosca Lauguart is creating a bit of stir (came to the UK recently with Louie Vega)and his album is well worth a listen.

There are strong Soul reissues with the Madcliff vinyl now in, and the previously un-released Fruit album on Athens of the North another must have record. There is a series of Marvin Gaye classic albums on 180gm vinyl, and Shirley Browns classic on Lp as well. There are also some great singles Athens of the North providing us with Symbol 8 for their first 12″ and they have three rare 45’s as well.Soul 7 serve up rare titles from Canadian Joey Irving and Just Us, and Expansion have 45’s from Bettye Lavette and Gerri Granger ahead of the Blackpool Soul festival.
