New releases and pre-orders 10th of May 2019

Some great albums and 45s feature this week, none less so than the stunning and highly anticapted set from Carlton Jumel Smith. With the crack team of Timmion house band/writing crew Cold Diamond & Mink behind this, Carlton has delivered an album that oozes vintage soul class. If you liked the monster crossover killer ‘This Is What Love Looks Like’ this is essential!

Tony Momrelle releases his stunning new set – the ‘The Best Is Yet To Come’ – and the music and vocals are absolutely on point. This album is packed with really strong cuts that will further elevate his reputation. *Please note – this is due in today but could be slightly delayed.
Also on the vintage soul vibe Canadian Tanika Charles delivers her second album for Record Kicks and ‘The Gumption’ certainly has a lot of that!
Brit folk/jazz genius Greg Foat delivers a stunning new 7-track album featuring some incredible sax work from Art Themen that further enhances Foat’s reputation as one of the most forward thinking and inventive minds at work today. Nighttime Lovers reaches its 30th Volume and the boogie funk is in full effect while Ace deliver that hard hitting message comp in the form of ‘If You’re Not Part Of The Solution – Soul, Politics And Spirituality In Jazz 1967-1975’. Gil Scott-Heron’s 1983 concert at Kulturzentrum Schauburg in Bremen, Germany on April 18th includes stunning takes of We Almost Lost Detroit”, “Angola Louisiana” and “Three Miles Down” among others. The nature of this being passed down from cassette to disc gives it a roughened edge with the bass a little far back in the mix but the clarity is good.

The 45s game is strong this week with Kent unleashing a raft of great single from the likes of CJ & Co, Eddie Parker, George Jackson, and the ever in demand Eddie & Ernie ‘Indication’. Check the double offering from Izipho Soul too as well as Sunlight Square’s superb, summery, jazzy ‘hanging Tough’. Luther Vandross’ in demand RSD 12″ ‘My Body’ is back in – limited stock on this – be quick!
