It is an amazing week for new releases and probably the last big week of the year. Greg Foat has made one of the best Jazz albums of the year ‘The Dreaming Jewels’ a Funky Modal jazz album of the highest order. Ropeadope label have a fresh batch of releases the best being Captain Supernova, but also check Javier Santiago, Crown and Casimir Liberski. Tenderlonious early album ‘On Flute’ gets a welcome repress on 22a and there is a great collection of Tribe recordings from Detroit 1990-2014. Jazz Defenders make a Hard Bop album on Haggis Horns new label.
Spiritual; jazz vol 10 is now in on both CD and Lp featuring tracks from the prestige label.
Joey Negro features many of his recent mixes and plays in 2019 essentials and Gangstar return with a new album.
On the reissue side Blinky has a double CD of Motown recordings many of which were previously unreleased, MaryJ Blige an overview compilation, Airto a classic album plus there’s a ressie of David Porter’s much sampled Victim of a Joke on LP and a funky Jackson 5ive album from ’73.
Nate Morgan’s spiritual jazz classic ‘Journey into Nigritia’ and Nat Birchall’s excellent and hard to find ‘Live At Larrisa’ bith get welcome vinyl reissues.
