Kokoroko have made a superb debut album that combines Afro-beat and new London Jazz to great effect, which will be a great soundscape to the long hot summer. James Taylor Quartet return with another strong album ‘Man in the Hot Seat’ and Theo Croker has an interesting new album out on CD (pre-order LP for end of September). Terrace Martin has a more hip hop based album ‘Drones’, and there is a new Alicia Keys and reissue of Aaliayah all on LP.
Many of the classic tracks from Slave, Steve Arrington and Aurra are collected on a 3CD Definitive collection. The Eccentric Soul series returns with the Shiptown label (also on limited coloured vinyl) and there is a good compilation of the funkier tracks from the Brunswick group of labels. From the same label Step by Step reissue their hard to find album ‘I Always Wanted To Be In The Band’, and Laura Lee classic ‘Love More Than Pride’ album is issued on Japanese CD.
We are sad to learn of the passing of the Motown/Soul legend Lamont Dozier at the age of 81. Lamont wrote numerous Motown classics along with Brian and Eddie Holland in the 60’s, while ejoying a fruitful solo career in the 70’s and early 80’s. He has left an incredibly rich legacy of songs and music which will give joy for many more years. We have limited copies of his seminal rare-groove Why Can’t We Be Lovers, alongside the classic album Love and Beauty
