Recommended releases – 23rd May 2014

There are Plenty of quality releases this week, many released next Monday, but shipping today to arrive on the release date.  Theo Crocker was featured last week, but now has sound clips and review added, Afro Physicist is one of the best Jazz albums of the year so far, just check out his version of ‘I Can’t Help It’ ft Dee Dee Bridgewater. J J Thames has recorded a great Southern Soul/Blues album, the track ‘Tell Me what you want to know’ is a future classic. King Bee provide us with a really good Jazz Funk/Fusion album, and there’s quality Smooth Jazz from Butch and Rhonda Coleman and a great comp ‘Smooth Jazz Journey’.

With the build up to the World Cup it was inevitable that Brazilian music would come to the fore. There are two really good new albums from Sonzeira on Talkin Loud and Friends From Rio on Far out  plus an intriguing album of Samba and boss nova interpretations of classic soul and jazz tracks that is the Brazil Connection. Add to that 3 budget price collections and a reissue of the classic Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto 60’s Bossa album and we are really flying the Brazilian flag this week.
Quality CD reissues from Carolyn Franklin, Manhattans, Patti Labelle and others and with a great lesser known Gospel album of Dylan’s songs featuring merry Clayton, Edna Wright etc from Brothers and Sisters there’s plenty to choose from. There are also some great  High quality Vinyl pressings  of classic Jazz albums.
Also check out these lists of Collectable CD’s and Original Vinyl new arrivals. All these titles are one off’s so please order early to avoid disappointment. Watch out for more titles being added next week.
