The fifth album by the inimitable Gil Scott-Heron and the first to be co-billed with his musical counterpart Brian Jackson. ‘Winter In America’ is a formidable album which in many ways requires no words to describe. Gil’s racial proclamations are in full force in this record dealing with African American society during the 1970s although this time executed with a quietness that accompanies Jackson’s arrangements perfectly. The album features the original version of the classic track ‘The Bottle’ as well as more delicate tunes such as ‘Peace Go With You, Brother’ and ‘A Very Precious Time’. A classic album that distills Jackon and Gil’s time together with some of their finest work.
