Brandee Younger has established herself as the leading contemporary Jazz Harpist and her new album ‘Soul Awakening’ is a beautiful piece of music , not only continuing the legacy of Alice Coltrane and Dorothy Ashby but also sounding incredibly contemporary as well. If you have not checked her out before listen to this uplifting album full of spirituality and melody. Mavis Staples turns 80 next month but still sounds strong on her new album ‘We get by’ a message album with a real throwback to the Staples Singers 70’s funky soul style. Nat Birchall teams up Al Breadwinner to produce an amazingly authentic Reggae Dub album ‘Sounds Almighty’. The Teskey Brothers from Australia have recreated the 60’s Stax sound on their album ‘Half mile harvest’. Good CD anthologies from Cheryl Lynn and James & Bobby Purify, and loads of great vinyl LP reissues including the latest Blue Note Tone poet album from Gil Evans, and unreleased Stan Getz live set from ’61 and many classic Soul, Jazz and Reggae albums.
