Gil Scott Heron ‘Pieces Of A Man’ is one of the all time great albums of our music. It is now reissued with an all analogue sound on a 2LP set from BGP to give possibly the best sound experience to date of this essential album (we still have the regular HQ Lp and CD as well).
There are two great reissues on our own Soul Brother label this week. Johnny Hammond ‘Gamblers Life’ is an amazing Jazz-Funk album from 1974 produced by the Mizell Brothers that includes the dancefloor classic ‘Starborne’ and title track sampled by Erykah Badu, but is a great album throughout. FBI is one of the best British Soul/Funk albums ever recorded, from 1976 it includes the rare groove classic ‘Talking About Love’ and a great version of ‘Love Love Love’.
Webster Lewis made some great Jazz-Funk, Jazz dance and Soul cuts over his five years with Epic , which are featured on ‘Give Me Some Emotion – The Epic anthology 1976-1981 compiled by Will Fox and Ralph Tee’, available on CD now or pre-order for LP due early in November. The CD contains a 12 page, 3,000 word booklet written by Will, featuring exclusive insights from Patrick Forge. An entertaining read!
There are some really nice 45’s from Ace this week including Gil Scott Heron, Loleatta Holloway brilliant ‘I Can’t Help Myself’ (first time on 45), Darrow Fletcher , Detroit Emeralds and more.
