New releases
Top of the list this week is the excellent Jazzmeia Horn CD . Every few years a new female Jazz singer emerges and blows us away with her sassiness. 2017 welcomes Jazzmeia Horn’s debut album ‘A Social Call’ , a fine selection of standards and classic tracks with a social message, backed by a great band. Adam Turchin also drops his debut album with help from Terrace Martin and for fans of cosmic, chilled and spacey jazz with an edge, this is for you. Adam Ben Ezra is a double bassist and his ‘Pin Drop’ CD is one for lovers of the minimal, abstract and experimental – well worth investing time to fully absorb. More highlights come from Ollie Howell, Jared Sims and Oumou Sanagre. Ray Mantilla – legendary latin jazz man – has dropped a great album chock full of searing rhythms and south American grooves. Check it! The Jay King CD en route – we don’t have them in at the moment but this may be landing today or by Monday: hot off the press!
We also have some good vinyl reissue 45s in from The Ringleaders and Jerry Williams, plus the Dynamics and Wes Montgomery sets are well worth a look too.
