New Releases, Reissues and Restocks | Friday 29th May

There are some great new releases, reissues and restocks this week. Brian Jackson has re-recorded many of the great songs that he recorded with Gil Scott Heron in the 70s, with contemporary singers and musicians to create what I am sure will be one of the albums of the year ‘Now More Than Ever’. Haggis Horns sax man Malcolm Strachan has another strong Jazz-Dance album ‘Look On The Bright Side’. Rita Satch is an Australian soul singer and she has recorded a very nice contemporary Soul LP. There is a high quality reissue of the obscure but very good 70s Jazz album Electric Village featuring drummer Bill Buchen. Ace have 3 good 45 reissues including long awaited deepsoul 17. Miles Davis, whose centenary we celebrated this week with Miles 100 has a couple of reissues. Soul Jazz records first comp ‘London Jazz Classics’ gets a welcome reissue, in stock on Cd, LP to come soon.

We are sad to learn of the passing of Jazz legend Sonny Rollins at the grand age of 95.Sonny who played with Miles recorded many great albums over a very long career starting in 1954, his most famous being ‘Saxophone Colossus’.
