Recommended new releases – 13th March 2015

Expansion records have made some really good compilations of new material over the past 15+ years, but few if any have achieved the consistently high standard that the Soul Togetherness presents Soul Life CD has. This essential album is almost certainly the best comp of new songs that you will hear this year. Raheem DeVaughn creates a more  R&b and the UK’s premier Jazz Warrior Courtney Pine returns with an acoustic album of classic songs.

Please accept our apologies for the delay in shipping orders for Rhonda Thomas, Bill Dickens and Fresh cut orchestra.Our shipment was delayed by the bad snowstorm on the east coast of USA late last week, and the courier has now lost track of the parcel. If they cant locate it by today, we will have to send another shipment over so we can ship out orders to you by mid next week. As you will appreciate this has been out of our control, rest assured we will get the orders to you as early as possible., thanks for bearing with us.

There are some good re-issues this week with The Notations pre Curtom recordings ‘Still Here 1967-73 a great documentary of Chicago Soul. Numero also have a good compilation ‘Ultra High Frequencies – Chicago Party’ which features some killer soul and boogie cuts.Two of Ann Peebles best albums are also issued on Cd and LP, and Betty Lavette killer ‘Child of the seventies’ album gets another welcome CD outing.

There are a few really good 45’s this week. The Soul Naturals provide us with refreshing upbeat funky soul number.

Timeless Legend super rare Modern soul dancer ‘Born to love you’ has a legitimate 45 reissue, and Sandi Sheldon’s Northern Soul classic is available again.The suprise of the week is the discovery of a great track from the early 00’s from Akwaaba People that may have been ahead of its time then, but sounds right on point for now.

Cecilia Stalin will be our special guest on record store day, she will be signing copies of her RSD release the vinyl EP The Story of love including wicked versions of ‘Sunny Day’ and ‘He loves you’. I hope that as many of you as possible can join us at the shop on the day to celebrate independent record stores.
