Kamasi Washington blew us away with his debut ‘The Epic’ in 2015 and he returns with a possibly an even better album ‘heaven & Earth’ released today. It is a 2CD or 4LP set with a bonus disc and is an incredible piece of music which will not only appeal to his fans but also to a broader audience.
This will be one of, if not the album of the year, miss at your peril!
A big thanks for those of you you came to the album playback party last night, it was actually quite special listening to the entire album in one go .
Also released today is the long awaited Swing Out sister album ‘Almost Persuaded’ possibly her finest , the Vinyl LP is pretty limited so grab that whilst you can. There are good new jazz sets from Emanative, Black Ark Art Collective and Hudson plus a smooth jazz set from Dave Koz and friends. Moonchild’s brilliant ‘Voyager’ album is now out on red vinyl.
Strong reissues and comps this week including the amazing Lou Courtney ‘I’m in need of love’ one of the all time great 70’s soul albums , back out remastered on LP and the CD which has 2 bonus non album cuts. Jean Carn’s classic Philly sides plus some other artists tracks that she sang on are on her 2CD Anthology. Comps include the classic This is Soul Atlatntic comp 50th anniversary editions on Cd and LP (cd with extras tracks) , Masterpiece 25 and some Trojan comps, plus Back Street Brit Funk Lp PT2 (PT 1 and CD next week).
Good singles from new soul artist Yasmin Lacy and in demand reissue 45’s from Infinity and Living Color.
