We are saddened to learn of the passing of Vicki Anderson (Momie-O) . Vicki was probably the most soulful of James Brown’s female singers, wife of Bobby Byrd and mother of Carleen Anderson. She made many Funk and Soul classics, our Anthology is sadly long out of print but you can still purchase her 60’s Soul sides on ‘Wide Awake In a Dream’ CD.
Mama Terra are the latest group to sign to Acid Jazz and the Scottish group have made a very nice Jazz album that incorporates Spiritual Jazz, Jazz Funk and Soul elements. Oh No deconstructs the Music of Roy Ayers to provide a more contemporary view of the great man”s music, the album also includes elements of Joe Henderson and Herbie Hancock.
There are some great reissue LPs this week , with long awaited issues of Collins and Collins rare groove classic album that includes ‘Top Of the Stairs’ and ‘You Know How To make Me feel Good’ and Nina Simone iconic ‘Baltimore’ along with Miles Davis ‘Sorcerer’ ft Wayne Shorter, Fela Kuti classic ‘Gentleman’ both on coloured vinyl and Jackie Mittoo funky reggae. We are back in stock of many great reissue albums from Jaco Pastorius, Billy Cobham, Weather Report and Miles Davis.
